The project, financed by “Impresa Sociale Con i Bambini“, was founded under the impulse of an informal network that has been engaged in the regeneration of the Ballarò quarter in Palermo for 4 years. Associations, social cooperatives, parishes, schools, universities, traders, citizens and institutions have been involved in a single participation process, capable of formalizing the construction of an active community that communicates, cooperates, educates, creates relationships and opportunities, in a logic of welfare sustainable community over time.
The specific objective of the project is to increase the levels of well-being and the opportunities for educational growth for minors between the ages of 5 to 14 who face difficult social, cultural and economic situations in Ballarò neighborhood.
The role of the school is valued as an opportunity to be understood, guiding minors to the strengthening of artistic, social, relational, socio-affective skills, giving opportunities for educational growth while also encouraging peer collaboration. The role of families will also be supported, involving them in processes of individual, parental and community empowerment. Paths will be set up for the acquisition of basic, transversal and professional skills, and to increase the capacity for active management of one’s life with concrete tools for personal and professional fulfillment and for the development of a critical awareness of one’s own environment.
The value of these will not be lost over time, but it will set an example towards the creation of new perspectives of social openness and of new types of evaluation and planning, able to rest on the results achieved and to create further development models, activating a welfare network that gives strength and sustainability to the processes activated by the project.
Kala Onlus will participate in the project for services for the age group of 5 years, oferring the coverage of the educational and recreational needs of the children during the summer period, when the children of the neighborhood are not taken in by the other centers in the Albergheria. In addition, Arci Porco Rosso will support the workshop for the construction of the educational garden and will develop a workshop for parents of children who are preparing to attend primary education, with the aim of providing them with tools to support their children in learning, with the aim of making them soon capable of independence in the performance of their duties.
